As widely reported, on January 16, 2025, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Complementary Bill 68/2024 into law, which has now become Complementary Law No. 214, the first legislation in the context of the Consumption Tax Reform. While the enactment was celebrated, it also brought unwelcome surprises for investment fund managers, particularly for Real Estate Investment Funds (FIIs) and Agro-Industrial Production Chain Funds (Fiagros), due to presidential vetoes. Law creates bonds for investment in Infrastructure
Law 14,801, published on January 9, 2024:
• creates infrastructure bonds;
• amends the legal framework of incentivized bonds; and
• amends Law 11,478/07, which deals with the taxation of FIP-IE (Private Equity Investment Fund in Infrastructure), FIP PD&I (Private Equity Investment Fund in Innovation, Research and Development) and FI-Infra (Investment Fund in Infrastructure).
